With COP26 still very fresh in our minds, we’re doing our best to reduce our impact on the environment. This Christmas especially, we don’t want to buy lots of plastic that will ultimately end up in landfill. At Live and Move, we’ve been asking ourselves: can we possibly contribute towards Live and Move’s aims of getting us all moving more through the gifts that we give others?

The answer? Yes! Read on for the ultimate 2021 Live and Move Christmas Gift Guide.

  1. Exeter Leisure membership

Gym memberships always sound expensive, but that doesn’t have to be the case. Exeter Leisure has recently updated their membership options, which start at £25 per month. These flexible memberships give you the chance to choose just the activities that you’re really going to participate in, meaning no more wasted membership and even more chance that you’ll stick with it!  And why not download their brilliant app which means you can manage your membership, and book classes, from the comfort of your sofa!

  1. National Trust membership

Here in the South West, we are absolutely inundated with wonderful places to visit. A National Trust membership means that your loved one can get out and about whenever the mood takes them and make the most of what’s on their doorstep.

Killerton is only a stone’s throw from Exeter and with acres and acres of beautiful garden to walk in, you can keep moving whilst you’re there! Slightly further afield is Knightshayes in mid Devon or Castle Drogo on Dartmoor. Perfect locations for walks with the family and cartwheels on the lawns!

  1. A pair of Crocs or wetsuit shoes

We’re so lucky to have beautiful beaches and rivers on our doorstep, not to mention great leisure facilities, including St Sidwell’s Point, opening in 2022.

Head to any one of Devon’s beautiful beaches or rivers of a morning and you’re sure to see some brave souls having a quick dip or paddle. Your loved one could soon be one of them and you could help them on their way by encouraging them to literally, dip their toes in the water. Pick up a pair of Crocs or wetsuit shoes in supermarkets or on eBay and there will be no excuse for them not to venture into the water in 2022!

  1. Cycling safely

Most of us have memories of cycling around the streets with our friends as children, but as we’ve got older and the roads have got busier, it can be a little daunting to get back on two wheels again. Thankfully, Devon County Council offer some free adult cycling courses. OK, so this isn’t a gift that costs money but booking your loved one a course like this is sure to get them moving a bit more in 2022!

Local charity Ride On also offers courses in bike safety and maintenance, and gives away one free adult and one free child bike per month. Take a look at their website here.

  1. An IOU

This is one of our favorite gift ideas. Why not promise your loved one a picnic on the next sunny, warm day? Or a trip to the beach, moor, park, or river? If it’s an especially busy person, the chance to unwind in the local pool or to take a walk with friends is something that they’re bound to appreciate!

If you’re somebody who has recently started to move more, please tell us about it. What have you been doing? And how’s it going? We’d love to hear your stories and you never know, it might help to inspire others. Get in touch at hello@liveandmove.co.uk.
