Badminton tournament in Exeter

Dec 12, 2023

Along with partners, Live and Move, the programme dedicated to help people in Exeter to be more active, is proud to support a two-day multicultural winter badminton tournament on 24-25 February 2024.

The event, the first of its kind in Exeter will take place at Wonford Sports Centre and all residents in Exeter are welcome to attend, regardless of whether they have experience of playing badminton or not.

The badminton group which was set up by Inclusive Exeter with support from Live and Move to support diverse communities in the city to be more active and to socialise with others, was established in 2021 and meets weekly on a Sunday morning. At the latest count, 16 nationalities regularly attend.

Mahi Ahmed from Live and Move said: “This badminton tournament is a real celebration of culture, community and sport, and the tournament will be an excellent way of marking all that the group has achieved since it was set up two years ago.”

“It’s an opportunity for many different organisations to work together, and to provide something that different communities seem to fully embrace. We look forward to seeing even more people come and play with us at the tournament in February.”

The tournament is open to everybody although places are allocated on a first come, first served basis. The event will run from 10-4pm on both days.

The badminton tournament is a partnership between Live & Move, Inclusive Exeter, Devon County Council, Exeter City Council, Wonford Sports and Leisure Centre and Devon Bengali Association.

Due to the tournament format, groups will compete for prizes, and there will be eliminations as activities progress throughout the event. Participants can register as a team of two. The winner will be a pair. Each game may last between 20 to 45 minutes. Registration will be on a first-come-first-serve basis.
